Hello guys,

Our customer had a strange issue.

The architecture:
PcVue communicates with local B&R OPC server. OPC Server communicates with remote redundant B&R PLCs.

The issue:
Many opc alarm variables of PcVue suddenly come up during one or more PLC lost connection.And disappeared after reconnection.This situation is very uncommon.So it's impossible to reproduce it.

I cannot locate where the issue is from, PcVue or B&R OPC Server and PLC. From the log file, PcVue is always connected with local OPC Server. Maybe the issue comes from B&R, but we'd better find a way to prove it.

PcVue version used is:
10.0.16030 SP1 Update30 VBA 2013/07/11

Do you encounter this situation or similar?

thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Did you check the OPC Server log file?

I want to add some information:

The customer developed a Report Program, which can query all historical Alarms that must have both appearing and disappearing log information. For the moment the Report Program cannot get these sudden historical alarms. It means the appearing and disappearing of alarms are not logged, or one of them are not logged. But the program can query some 'normal alarms' during that time.

This project uses SQL Server, and it is intalled in IT room. The customer cannot check with SQL Server directly for the moment. I'm waiting for their checking.

'normal alarms' during that time:

2886=381 1 2016 05 11

sudden alarms:

2886=382 2 2016 05 11

Hi Mark,

Firstly: No errors or disconnection in OPC server logs => OK. So, here you have a sudden avalanch of alarms appearing in PcVue when 1 PLC lost the connection with the OPC server but, apparently, you can't reproduce it.

Secondly: This avalanch of alarms is not logged.

My question: How do you know this avalanch of alarms came up? From operator feed back?

Hi Nicolas,

The Alarm Viewer displayed the avalanche of alarms.I attached a screenshot sent by customer, of course these alarms became NoAckOff when the customer took the screenshot.

Hello guys,

I got a message from this customer today that the customer changed the Project Name of one Client about one month before the avalanche of alarms come up.

If it is allowed to use different Project Names in a C/S architrue, of course the networking configuration of all projects are right.

Project name can be changed without problem.

To come back to your issue: What B&R support said to your customer?

Mark, you wont be able solving that kind of issue alone as you can't reproduce it.
The only way is to involve the B&R support and work with them in kind of partneship. Otherwise you just have to say "We displayed these alarms because we received them from the OPC Server!"
Now the hot potatoe is on B&R support...

Thanks Nico.

I agree with you very much. I just try to know if we have this issue before. 🙂

Have a nice weekend.
