I have the case of a customer migrating a PcVue 8.x project to PcVue 10.0.
Obviously the watchdog management has been reworked in between those versions. But how?
The online help reads:
Well, I am this guy in the support agency, but I do not know what I am supposed to answer. Can you help me?
Hi Armin,
I believe, that in the old LON Equipement dialog box, you had to configure a variable to play the role of a Watchdog (this variable had to regulary change)
Since version 9, and the Application Explorer environnement, there is no field Watchdog any more... and the online help helps you to understand why...
(my opinion)
Hi Raphael,
Thanks for you answer. I spoke to Sylvain earlier this week. In fact the answer is as follows:
- PcVue 10.0 "delegates" monitoring to the LNS-Server. That includes that polling and watchdog are managed centrally in the LNS-Server.
- These intervals are configured by assigning classes to the nodes in the network. There are four classes of nodes: Mobile, Temporary, Stationary and Permanent. Those classes are assigned to nodes in the configuration environment of the LNS server (LonMaker or NL220).
- Note: For nodes of type "Permanent" normally no watchdog is used. Their permanent presence and availability in the network is assumed.
- However, the configuration of these classes can be overriden on PcVue side. Refer to the online help for details ("Configuring a LonWorks Network").
- You can change the class of a node (Device Configuration)
- You can change the ping interval for all four classes (Ping Intervals)
- You can change the default polling interval of the LNS server for all variables in a network (Default monitoring options for variables)
- You can change the polling interval for all variables in a network individually (Monitoring Parameters of a variable)
All this is mainly because of backward compatibility reason. The more "modern" approach is to do the configuration in the configuration tool of the LNS server.
That's correct.
Thanks for the details Armin.
