Hello

One of my customer has an architecture with 1 server and 21 clients station

Today they have to migrate to V10SP1

They can't migrate all the architecture in one day, so an option would be to migrate some stations (the server and some clients) first, and then migrate the others stations.

The question is : is there any known problems when, in a multistation architecture, some stations run in V10 and other run in V9 (SP2 2852)0?

Thks for your feedback
François

Hi François,

Winnet V9 and V10 should be compliant, so you can migrate only one part of the architecture.

Hello François,

"Finger in the nose" will be my answer 😉
v9 and v10 are completely compatible regarding winnet mailbox.

The first step would be migrating most of the client stations then the passive server.
Try to switch v10 server as active.
Finally, continue with the second server and the remaining clients.
Even if it is better having the same version on all computers, I have already seen the following combination :
- v10 / v9.0 (actually Vazzio)
- v10 / v8.2
- v9.0 / v8.2
- maybe more ...

If it is possible, I suggest a real blackout with the new version (2 servers stopped and relaunch one after another).

Of course if some project development are needed they have to be done with the smallest version.

Edouard

Thx guys for your quick answer.

Good to know that winnet is compatible...BTW did you face other compatibility problems running V/V10 at the same time?

In their architecture there's only one server and 21 clients so they will have a blackout...which is ok if it doesn't last too long

Thx again for your answers

Hello everyone,

I would like to re-open this topic, but in a different context (maybe we could rename the thread to "Running multistation project with heterogenous PcVue versions"?):
I would like to know about your experience running heterogenous architectures consisting of PcVue 10.0 stations and PcVue 11.0 stations? Is it in the same way compatible as the WinNet interfaces of PcVue 9.0 and PcVue 10.0?

I believe that for versions 10.0/11.0 this topic will be of even bigger relevance because some customers (like in my case right now) will require to continue running a PcVue 10.0 data acquisition station in case that the specific driver or manager they are runnning is Windows XP-only-compatible.

Hi,

When I qualified the 10 SP2 multistation, I tried with this architecture:
- 2 servers in a real-time association (PcVue 9 SP2 and PcVue 10 SP2)
- 1 historical server (PcVue 11 release)
- 1 client (PcVue 10 SP2)

There is no problem in my test.

Dominique said yes, 11 is compatible with 10.
