Hello.

Could anybody please give me detailed information about LNS compatibility of PcVue 10? The sentence in the online help is unfortunately not very helpful:

Compatible with LNS 3.2

And in the Release Notes of PcVue 9.0 it says:

LNS® package versions lesser than 3.2 (Turbo Edition) are not supported any more.

Release Notes PcVue 10.0:

A trace is now displayed in the event viewer in case LNS 3.24 is used. This version of LNS is known to be unstable and should not be used.

But wait... Can this really be true? Don't we have a relatively big base of LNS projects historically? Does this mean that we may only use LNS versions between 3.20 and 3.23? Isn't it possible to migrate old LON based projects to PcVue 10.0?

Hi Armin,

Yes, we have a big base of LNS projects. But I would bet 70% have been done with a version earlier than 3.2
LNS 3.2 is called Turbo Edition and:
- Many manufacturers had to upgrade their devices to be compatible
- Many Si had to update their configuration software (like LonMaker) to be compatible.

So, many of them didn't do it!

I don't know why the 3.24 is not stable but if we have written it we should have a good reason. But we didn't say that we don't support it. Its just a warning for the user that he must take care and, maybe, he should update his LNS version to have something more stable.

Yes, we can migrate but it's not on the PcVue side. Lns DB must be migrated using LonMaker.

Thanks, Nico.
My main concern is actually if we can still connect LNS 3.06 or 3.08 with PcVue 10.0.
But if I understand you right compatibility has been broken with LNS 3.20TE?

Yes you are correct.
PcVue 10.0 is definitely not compatible with LNS 3.06 or 3.08

In order to close this topic I add additional quotes from Jacques and Benoît:

‘LNS Turbo Edition’ is the name corresponding to LNS 3.2x.

3.06 and 3.08 aren’t LNS turbo edition. LNS turbo edition provides new features used by the recent version of PcVue. The use of these new features breaks the compatibility between PcVue and previous version of LNS.
These new features concerns the detection of communication loss.

So, “Compatible with LNS 3.2” means “3.2 and later”.

There is a check in the PcVue source code to verify that the LNS version is 3.2 at least. In the other cases, the network doesn’t start.

Support for LNS versions prior to 3.20 has been dropped with PcVue 8.20 SP2 and 9.0.
