Dear Support,

We have a customer, who tries to print a selected line on the alarm/log viewer, using the print button and it does not seem to print anything. The printer was connected directly through USB on their workstation.

The printer was set up in the Line Printer dialog box with all default settings.

We can see printing requests on the printer queue, but the loading bar just keeps going on forever and does not end.

On the PrintVue dialog box, there was no error displayed.

We tried setting True Type Font to "As Graphics", but this caused PrintVue to "Writing to printer...." in a loop and no print request was received on the Printer queue.

We tried several other options, like changing "character conversion", other options on "True Type font option", and "Enable packet printing", but still no luck.

Does anybody have any clues, are there any special configuration needed?

For the record, we have encountered similar issues in our office before as well, but with no leads. The printer in our office was connected through WIFI.

Edouard's laptop was able to print normally without error.
Mine and Andy's laptops encountered the printing issue, using the exact same project that worked on Edouard's laptop.

Any clue will be appreciated.

Hello Kanta,

as far as I remember:

- you can use this feature ONLY if your printer supports "resident fonts". To my memory, only OLD dot matrix printer (like IBM Proprinter or similar) supports this feature. Also some old Epson Ink-jet. For sure, not laser printers. To be short: none of the printer right now on the market support this feature. Also the "True type font as graphic" options has no effect (I made the last try on PcVue 11.2 - don't know if now it's solved)
- I opened an SPR related to slow printing on Log&Alarm Viewer: #70581

Feel free to ask, in Italy this feature is used quite often. I have in my office an old Epson Dot Matrix printer I used for these tests.

Hello Filippo,

Thank you so much for your replies.
That would make sense if you said it is only supporting the dot matrix printer and not the laser printer. However, the mystery was it worked for 1 of Edouard's VM, but none of our physical machines nor the VMs. The destination was the same printer and the same project. We were not able to identify any differences.

I will check further about resident fonts to see if I can get any information.

Thanks,
Kantha

Hello all,

I set up the project on another VM of mine, and here it works. On Andy's laptop, it still does not work. We compared all the driver settings, printer settings, etc, and did not see anything different.

We have enabled Printer logs on Event Viewer and could see that on Andy's laptop, the printer preprocessor fails unexpectedly, error code

0x80004005

.

Attached are the logs from both of our machines, in case anyone has some idea about it.

Thanks again, and good night.

Hello,

Is the printer USB working with MS word or notepad?

Did you have another try for log viewer printing using a network printer?

Please configure a printer server to share your printer.
Then input the printer server host name (\hostname), finally you can find the printer in the combobox.

Share your network printer
