Hi guys
One of our customer made a project implementing 70 HDS databases....A real SQL is too expensive !
Wow!!! Insane!
I want to see how SQL express will manage 70 databases with only 1Go RAM and one processor.
If customer archive 10 variables per database maybe it will work, but I'm not sure.
"only 1Go RAM and one processor." are the specs of your customer Nico P?
Nico K
Please don't call me when you will have problems with archiving...
I don't want to be the one who will have to read the traces and understand the configuration of trends !
If you validate this kind of architecture I will be with Ludo, very far of this project 😉
hahaaa! Apparently the project is running correctly already otherwise you received some calls already!
But I have a general remark: If we don't want supporting that kind of architecture then we must request to limit in PcVue. No limits means we accept it...
Should be nice having the Arnaud/Kevin's opinions...
Nico
Hi,
I follow Nicolas and go for "insane".
Let's go for a bit of maths:
- A regular license for SQL Server is less than 2 000 € (around 1 500€ if I remember well)
- The story ends up with 70 DB
- That's roughly 2000/70 = 28€ per DB
If each DB configuration, testing and maintenance is more than 28€, a license would have been a better bet.
Even without considering the long term costs, I am sure it is not worth configuring and testing 70 DB instead of 1 or 2 based on a licensed SQL Server instance.
Hello
I'm launching an idea, but it wouldn't be possible to make an agreement with Microsoft and thus no longer provide a SQL Server Express database on the PcVue DVD but a standard version. This will save us a lot of HL calls regarding the limitations and problems encountered by SQL Express usage.
Stephan
I said my customer I don't support this project !
