I am updating the Trend Viewer help to include the new features for version 11.0 - mainly the new options to display the thresholds using the Advanced Curves tab.

However - while I was "playing" with the new features it became obvious that the help about the Display Buffer and the Scroll Bar is clearly wrong. (It used to be correct - I spent a lot of time on it some years ago to get it right!) For example:

  • Even if you enter a very small value for the Display Buffer (say 1000 points) in real-time mode it clearly buffers more than this. If you enter a very big number (above 32767) it displays a negative number (oops....) So is there a min and max that the display buffer field should be limited to?
  • In historical mode the scroll bar exhibits some very odd behavior. You are unable to drag it anymore, although you can still move it using the right and left arrow buttons.

There may be other strange behaviors but I haven't explored it all yet (it takes time....)

So - does anyone know what the true behavior is (or is supposed to be)? It must be pretty confusing for customers that try and use these features to the full if they don't work as expected.....

Cheers, Robin

Min: I dont know
Max: Should be 32000.
I advise you create a SPR for this issue

In historical mode the scroll bar exhibits some very odd behavior. You are unable to drag it anymore, although you can still move it using the right and left arrow buttons.

That's normal because when you make an historic request the Time Capacity and the Period are the same therefore no scrolling.
And if you click on the arrows button the trenviewer makes a new request corresponding to the Next/Previous Period.

Please confirm this with Niko D.

OK - I gave a poor explanation. When you zoom in, in historic mode, the scroll bar button is sized to accordingly and positioned with the scroll bar to indicate where in the buffer you are (as with a real-time trend in pause mode). But you can't click and drag the button. Well in fact you can but it goes back to the original position by itself. (like it is on elastic!)

For the buffer size, the behavior is distinctly odd as it seems to be ignored in historical mode. I was able to display a historical trend with far more than the 32000 points supposed limit. And in fact if you change the limit to a very small number it seems to make no difference - all the points are still displayed.

I will ask Niko D (again) for an explanation....

Robin
