Hello,
In online help of PcVue it is written that windows XP embedded SP3 is supported by PcVue (10.0 for exemple) but with limitations.
what are these limitations ?
thx
PS : PcVue advices me to contact technical support, that's what I'm doing 😆
That means PcVue is supposed to work on this OS but we never qualified it therefore maybe there is some limitations.
Here in Malaysia we are selling a solution called BoxVue containing:
1. An industrial computer (Touchscreen or small box)
2. Windows XP Embedded or Windows 7 Embedded
3. PcVue V10
It works perfectly but the Windows embedded installed is a full XP (or7) image therefore it's logic it is working.
But, the good answer to give to a customer is: Yes, it should work but you must test first because your XP image is maybe not compatible with PcVue.
By the way take care on something else: Often, a device having an embedded OS has a SSD instead a normal hard disk.
Just for explaining better the story of the Windows Embedded license because in Italy we sell "PanelPcVue", same of "BoxVue" in Malaysia.
The Embedded license is sold, from Microsoft, only to Hardware manufacturer and allow to create a customised Windows installation image. Manufacturers can decide which components of windows they want to include in their customized image.
In my experience, 90% of the case it's only a commercial matter: infact the Embedded license cost less (130 € for Windows 7) if compared with the "Standard" one, and if all components are enabled, the hardware manufacturer (and the end customer also) can obtain at the end a full Windows license but saving money.
Of course, the Windows name still is "Embedded" but, technically speaking, it's a Standard version of Windows.
To be sure, the best is to ask to the manufacturer of the PC: "Which components have you removed from your installation image?" If only "Games" are removed, I'm pretty sure that PcVue can works the same! 👿
Instead, if they have removed COM/DCOM... I think you can have some problems!
About Hard Drive/SSD: As I know actually the only limitation of SSD is the size. In the past there was some problems related to the amount of writing ciclics (after some million of writings cycles, the old technology's SSD became unusable). Our italian hardware vendor guarantees that the SSDs sold today do not suffer more from this problem.
Hoping this can help you! 🙂
Correct.
The difference between a "Full XP" image and the standard W7 package are:
- It's not possible adding new Windows feature (i.e setup IIS)
- It's not possible using Windows Update
Well, but now the problem is how to know the components that PcVue needs ?
Ex : a customer wants to buy an indutrial computer to embedd it on a train (for exemple). Now, he wants to know which windows components he needs to execute correctly PcVue.
Hello,
I got a customer who is using a panel PC with XPE SP2, and PcVue can be installed correctly. So, the customer doubts that: what kind of risk they will have if they use XPE SP2?
Extract from a web article: Microsoft has started working with organizations on Custom Support contracts for Windows XP. Reports are that pricing may be significantly higher than it was in the past. Microsoft's pricing on Custom Support for Windows XP will cause tangible budget issues for many organizations that need to run Windows XP securely after 8 April 2014.
If everybody follows the recommendations of this article, we will see less and less Windows XP Embedded in the near future.
ok thanks everybody I close the ticket !
Hello,
I found this thread looking for a solution with PcVue touch panels. I want to know if there is any updates with regards to this with PcVue 11.2?
Has there been a change with the products (BoxVue and PanelPcVue)?
Also, where can we get the panel solutions for PcVue since we have a client that wants this specifically?
Thank you,
Tijo
Hello Tijo,
Here in Malaysia, we recently sold a few BoxVue to customers running 11.2 with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. The
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise component even allows user to install IIS and for PcVue user it means they can host WebVue (already tested).
Where to get it? I assumed you could source it from our Paris HQ or even from Malaysia if you want.
