Hello everybody!
After our summer nightmare with Windows Updates, few customers are asking if they can use Windows LTSB (Long Term Support Branch) editions, that should have a more careful update cycle.
In KB1009 I read:
Operational but may have limitations in use:
Please contact your technical support before using:
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2016 or later, Windows Server IoT 2019, Windows Server for Embedded Systems and all other embedded systems
Do you know what these limitations are or can be? Any experience or feedback?
Thankyou!
Hi,
Using Windows LTSB (formerly LTSC) with PcVue is not a problem if they fit in term of age. For example, for Windows 10 Enterprise, the LTSBs more recent than version 1607 fit - Our readme for v12 says 'Windows 10 version 1607 or later' = any LTSB more recent than 1607 is ok.
The quote you put in your message is for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, and the issue there is not to know if it is an LTSB or not. The issue is the fact that such 'embedded' system is packaged by HW OEMs, and we can simply don't ensure that they are complete (in term of Windows packages) and therefore they are not supported a-priori.
Such platforms, shipped by us on Advantech computers, or as part of the BoxVue offer, are validated and work. But even another reference from Advantech may not be Ok.

Hi Benoit,
does your explanation remain the same with windows 10 enterprise ltsc 2019? Does it work with PcVue 15.0?
Thanks
Manu
Hi Manu,
Yes, the explanation is still valid for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019.
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 corresponds to the level of features in Windows 10 build 1809 and is supported by PcVue 15.
