Hello colleaguesWe have installed a License Owner Station at a customer that manages 10 client licences.
When calling the respective client in a remote session (RDP), I could use the option "-WTS project name, list name" to assign the client a free station number (from the list mentioned) and the corresponding licence.
However, since we mostly work with PcVue installations on workstation PCs, I cannot use the WTS option.
I could use a fixed number with "-Station_Number", but then I would have missed the purpose of the License Owner Station, which is to manage floating licences. The background is that different people should use the PcVue application on their respective PC at different times without all having a fixed assigned license.
How can I control this when I call it up?
Hi Mustafa,
The point is you must declare in the Networking configuration the list of Clients that are Renters of the licenses.
Then, you use this command option -WTS ProjectName,ClientStationListName
Using this way, PcVue will allow the license to any client of the project that connect to the license server.

Hello Mustafa,
To complete Nico's answer, I guess you have used the wizard "With Remote Desktop Session Host Server"
I would like to give these advices:
1/ In RDS architecture, you should avoid using -station_number. If it seems to work better with it, some settings are missing
2/ When using -WTS option, there should be no space between the project name, the comma and the list name
-WTS ProjectName,ClientStationListName
3/ The documentation is well done. There are many sections. Here are the must know, among all of them
https://www.pcvuesolutions.com/support/ProductHelp/PcVue/en/Content/AE/Comm_Networking/Wizard_Step_RDS1.php (and other steps)
https://www.pcvuesolutions.com/support/ProductHelp/PcVue/en/Content/Deployment/RDS_user_permissions.php
4/ Launching PcVue as Administrator is not a solution. It should never be done
Edouard
Hello Nico & Edouard,
Thank you for the quick feedback.
@Edouard according to your information:
- 2/ When using -WTS option, there should be no space between the project name, the comma and the list name
-WTS ProjectName,ClientStationListName
[/*]
I noticed that no space is accepted at any point. It has to be -WTSPROJECTNAME,CLIENTSTATIONLISTNAME
If there is a space between like -WTS PROJECTNAME,CLIENTSTATIONLISTNAME there is an error message. (attached picture)
It would be helpful to mention this in the online help. Command line arguments (pcvuesolutions.com)
Mustafa
Hello Mustafa,
A space is mandatory after option -WTS
The error message you attached with your previous post is about a service you need to start.
You have to configure it beforehand.

You are using PcVue (16?) on Windows 2019 (or 2022) Server, RDS properly set up, right?

Hi Edouard,
I should have mentioned upfront that no RDS session is used. We are looking for a way to manage the floating licenses without specifying the station number beforehand.
I manage my licenses using a VM on my computer in the same network. the idea is to use this vm as a workstation. But I want to pass the station number using the ClientStationListName, so the -k command should not be used.
Is there another way to manage floating licenses. It seems that -WTS works as it should only with RDS?
Mustafa
Hi Mustafa
I think you just have to configure correctly the network dongle section in station advanced settings.
- Network dongle - The configuration required if using a network dongle. A network dongle is one that has several licenses in the same dongle. Typically used where PcVue is running on Windows Server using Remote Desktop Services.
- [*]Network dongle role - Tick if the station is to use a network dongle.
- Owner or renter - Selection of the station role as a dongle owner or renter.
- [*]Owner - The station is a network dongle owner. That is the dongle is physically connected to the host PC running PcVue locally.
- Renter - The station is a network dongle renter. That is PcVue on this station will retrieve its license from another station configured as a dongle owner.
- [*]Network dongle location - The location of the network dongle license.
- [*]Slot number - The slot number (either 1 or 2).
- Owner's station name or Association name - The name of the station, or association to which the dongle is physically connected. In the case of an association, two dongles are required with the active server having the role of dongle owner.

PcVue client starts with the good station number (IP) and try to catch the license from the owner station.
Anthony
Yes Anthony, but what I undesrtood from what Mustafa wrote, is he wants to not have to name his station.
But, Mustafa, that's not really possible, your station must be declared with IP or FQDN therefore it must be named when you start it.
Otherwise, any station on the network could get a license token and, here, you have a real License server behavior (which is not the PcVue case now!).
Nico
Thanks for the great feedback
Now I got it 🙂
