Hello all,

I would like to know, whether there could be a problem, when mapping several PcVue variables to the same source. The question is especially related to CIMWAY and OPC.

I know that it is not possible to map it inside PcVue, but only in varexp.dat, but if doing directly in the file, you think there could be any problems?

Thank you in advance.

First question is, why you need to have many variable link on the same External variable.

After, I think it depends on how many variable you will map on each variable in communication.

And for information you can link variable in PcVue in the source tab of variable.

Hello,

to answer your first question: This will be a migration from Factory Link to PcVue, where a lot of tools were already written for migration purpose, because they have a lot of factory link projects. Factory link was allowing to map several variables to same source, so it would be a big effort to rework the datamodel. In the first step there are only OPC variables, but in the next steps there also could be CIMWAY variables. In fact, like said, tools are creating the varexp.dat, so the mapping itself is not the problem.

- The question right now is only, whether this could cause problems on PcVue site, e.g. what happens if not only reading, but also writting a variable.

- After that the question is, whether it is also possible with CIMWAY variables?

- And the last question is, if migration the tools to xmlimporter, is that possible with the xmlimporter?

Hello all,

Mapping several variables to the same Cimway source was possible with PcVue2.
It was not authorized anymore for PcVue32 (far far away).
With the last versions of PcVue (at least 10.0 in my mind) it is now possible, even using the configuration HMI, but a message in the event viewer can be shown depending on PcVue version.
Of course, when the frame mapping is displayed, only one variable is shown.

For OPC variables instead, it was already possible to map several variables to the same item.

Please be careful, this feature is often used to map 2 variables to the same address or item. The use is for example having two alarms triggered at the same time but needing separate acknowledgments.
It would be nonsense (or quite dangerous) configuring more.
