Hi all,

We received a tender for linking up 200 buildings located all across the country. There should be local control and monitoring for each building, and they should be connected back to an IP based central BMS command center. Note that the communication is only happening between the command center and the buildings. What would be the most efficient and cost effective architecture to do this? Thank you.

Hello Tijo

This architecture look like simple Cient server architecture in PcVue.
Each 200 building as a PcVue Server gathering information and having an HMI for local control.
The central BMS command center is a PcVue Client that consumme all the variables produced locally on the 200 building and that can also send control to it.

To link all the building to the central BMS one can imagine a VPN network between the site.
This type of architecture has been made for the Nice region in France and other aplication as well.

Looking at the bandwith this is kept to a minimum since the Multi station messaging only send packet when value moves on the server. There is no polling mechanism involved.

I hope this help

Thank you Emmanuel.

Can this work if we want it all to run over the web?
So instead of client server, can we have HMI with WebVue server in each building, and then have WebVue client in the command and control room?

Yes that would be another solution.
The webvue solution implies in the control room that you have a system (maybe a webpage or a C# app) that allow you to select the building (effectively it is an IP address underneath) to connect to the correct WebView server.
Maybe define with your customer how many concurent building you can connect to as well.

Hi Tijo,

There are several ways to do it. The first point to consider is: Does the Control Center (OCC) need to have the data? I mean if the final customer needs ONLY to monitor then you can go to a WebVue or RDS access. That's the most easy way as you don't really need vpn except maybe for the cyber-security.

But if you need to consolidate data (meaning archiving) in the OCC then you need a Server/Client architecture.
The Tender should specify that kind of request.

I suggest you contact directly the Arcinfo sale in charge of your account to help you answering this Tender.
That's too complex to answer clearly on a Forum's topic.
