Hi guys,
Question from 1 of our customer:
I have 50 serial network communication. Each network have 20 devices. Can the PcVue handle all 1000 devices on 50 networks?
My answewr is yes but I want to double check with you guys first. I think the network limit is 64...
Nico
Hi,
I will not directly answer your question yet but be careful with the limits of frames per configuration which is 1638? (KB102). If one frame for each device, it is already 1000.
Then, PcVue should manage it but I will be convinced only after seeing it work 24/7 😉

Hello
Edouard I am not sure that the limit of 1638 frames is still effective with new drivers.
Nico what is the serial driver your customers is using?
Hello,
MODBUS RTU and JBUS RTU are considered as new or old drivers?
@Manu: Modbus RTU
@Edouard: This KB article applies to all versions until 7.0d !!!
What are the current limits?
Nico
Hi Nico
Modbus RTU is an old style driver.
You can check that by looking into the protoc.dat file in the BIN directory.
Old style driver (written in C) are listed with 10 and new style one are listed with 20.
Regarding the limit Edaurd stipulated are no longer applicable for new PcVue version.
BUT ASKING a PC to manage 50 serial ports is very optimistic indeed.
If you are using serial port emulator please check with the constructor if this is possible to set up 50 simulateor on the same Pc.
I would rather use ModbusIp / Modbus RTU gateway with shared connection in PcVue configuration.
That way PcVUe will only need to manage 50 socket and that is not a problem.
I kept in mind that for old style protocols (listed with 10), some limits could remain from KB102 even for new PcVue versions.
Now we have the confirmation it is not depending on it anymore!
It is time for customers to appear in our topic "Guiness book"
I of course agree with Emmanuel about using gateways
Hi Manu,
OK the old limit doesn't apply to current PcVue. So? What is the new limit?
I will forward your suggestion to the customer, thank you for that.
Nico
According to Dominique there is no longer any defined limit (I guess it is the Pc RAM memory that fixes the limit).
To be 100% sure plpease check with Dominique on his return from Holiday.
Manu
