Please could someone explain to me what the property
"Use default parameters" (It used to be called "Use default monitoring options"
really means.
It occurs in:
the Advanced tab of the Lonworks Network dialog, and
the Advanced tab of any Lonworks variable.
There is an explanation in the help but it does not seem to be good.
Thanks to anyone that can clear up this mystery.
Robin
What you configure in the Network will be the default setting for all variables of this network.
Example:
In Network properties / Advanced tab, if you select "Use default parameters" then when you will create the variable this option will be set automatically.
Clear?
OK - clear.
But in that case what does the option "Use default properties" mean. Does it mean that the scan rate and option to bind are taken from the configuration in the LonWorks server itself?
Cheers, Robin
No, I guess it's the PcVue default (10s).
I advise you ask Jacques as I am not sure 100%
I have the full answer from the LonWorks guru (JS). It will appear in the next version of the help.
Ah anything to for us to read the next help !!!!

And I was hoping that everyone might read the help :cheer:
Monitoring parameters.
- Allow the Supervisor to bind variables to the host - Allows the developer to configure the binding of variables to the LNS host using the property, Bind the variable, in each variable's configuration. This option is for backwards compatibility for projects created with earlier versions of the Supervisor where its use was commonplace. Its use is no longer recommended. (Instead the Supervisor uses any binding configured in the Network Management Tool (NL220 or LonMaker) which is more flexible and efficient.)
- Delayed monitoring stop when nodes become off-net - The delay (in seconds) before the node monitoring is stopped in the event that the node is detected as being off-net. This is to prevent the monitoring of a node from stopping if the node is expected to go temporarily off-net from time to time.
Default monitoring options for variables. The configuration of the following three properties only affects the default settings of variables. The settings can still be changed for individual variables when they are configured.
- Use default parameters - Use the monitoring configuration (binding and polling) that is configured in the Lonworks network management tool.
- Bind this variable to the host - If selected, the default monitoring option for Lonworks variables in the Supervisor is Bind the variable. This option is included for backwards compatibility only. Its use on a new project is not recommended.
- Poll interval - The default polling interval in seconds for the Supervisor's Lonworks variables. The range of this value is from 1 to 3355443 seconds in steps of 0.1. The maximum value is equivalent to approximately 39 days. It is recommended that you use a minimum value of 60 seconds.
But what about your question about the "Use default properties" ??
But what about your question about the "Use default properties" ??
The property is called Use default parameters now.
Use default parameters - Use the monitoring configuration (binding and polling) that is configured in the Lonworks network management tool.
Is it a poor explanation?
